UW Humanities
Madison, WI

Since we are associated with the University, many of these rules stem from theirs. Our apologies if you thusly find them harsher than usual con rules. In general these just deal with common respect and courtesy.

General Con Rules:

  • No smoking
  • No alcohol or other drug substances (prescriptions excluded)
  • No objects checked over $50 worth
  • Real weaponry is not permitted on the premises as per UW Police Requirements. Prop weaponry is only allowed during skit times and shall be held by Geek.kon staff prior to and after the skits until the owner chooses to depart the premises.
  • A badge is required at all times. If you lose your badge, immediately return to check-in and talk to con staff.
  • No glass containers. And while you're at it, don't litter, okay? Use a garbage can or recycling bin.
  • No bare feet in the building. Ew. This is a popular campus building, and frankly bare feet in it would just be disgusting.
  • Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • In the interest of space, please keep carry-in items small.
  • No fighting or violence, even staged – how would staffers and our lovely Madison Police know the difference? And you so don't want to be arrested for fake fighting. It isn't worth it.
  • You may not remain in the building after 11:00PM.
  • Security has final say on security issues. Which means if it isn't posted here and they say it, deal with it.

Warnings:

Con is not responsible for equipment. That means if you decide to bring your $2000 Magic card (since it's Booster Draft, I don't know why you would), you're responsible for it. We will not check items worth over $50. Keep an eye on your own stuff! There is, alas, no building-side parking. In fact campus parking is notoriously awful. Be forewarned. On the plus side, the Madison Bus System is monstrously great! even on weekends! (www.mymetrobus.com) Be respectful of equipment. It's not yours. I don't expect you to tiptoe on the DDR pads, but keep the food and drink at a distance around the PS2s, okay?

Cosplay rules:

  • No clothing is, unfortunately, not a costume.
  • Real weaponry is not permitted on the premises as per UW Police Requirements. Prop weaponry is only allowed during skit times and shall be held by Geek.kon staff prior to and after the skits until the owner chooses to depart the premises.

Video Gaming:

  • Time limits on play-time for games if others are waiting
  • Signed up games take priority over walk-ons

For Volunteers:

  • Don't participate in games while staffing the rooms.
  • Don't abuse your nefarious powers

Panels:

  • Theater rules in panels – just be sort've polite, okay?

Art show:

  • Do not touch the art in the art show. Come on!
  • Naked is art, but not for here. Campus, right?
