  1. Since this is now one contest with two categories (Anime and Misc. Geekery), be sure when you send your Contest Entry to specify which of the two categories the video is for.
  2. All entries must be by August 15, 2016 (postmarked is physically mailed, by midnight that day if electronically sent). No entries will be accepted after this date. If you are Snail Mailing it on Deadline Day, send an e-mail informing us of this so we can be Over 9000% sure to include your entry.
  3. Each contestant is limited to one entry per contest for judging. You may submit up to two additional entries per contest for exhibition purposes only. Geek.Kon staff members MUST enter for exhibition only. Each entry will require a separate entry form. If you submit more than one video, please indicate clearly which video is to be judged. Please note that if there are too many videos for the allotted time, one or more of your exhibition entries may not be shown in order to allow the best videos to compete. If you are a part of a studio with multiple members, we will accept entries from each individual studio member. Each studio member is allowed one contest entry per contest.
  4. The contest will only accept digital submissions (hard copy on CD or DVD or electronic). These submissions must meet the following digital criteria:
    • Entries must be stand alone data files on either CD(s) or DVD(s). You may enter videos electronically by providing a download link on the entry form. If you choose to enter by mail DO NOT burn your disk as a DVD! If you are submitting more than one video for a contest, you may put them on one DVD per contest. Please separate Anime entries and Misc. Geekery contest entries onto separate DVDs and clearly mark which is which. Please make sure that the filenames are clear. Emailed videos must be uploaded to a file sharing site and then the page link emailed to with the correct details included.
    • Video files should be set to maximum quality.
    • Video files may span across multiple discs if needed using either ZIP or RAR.
    • Files may be AVI, MPEG, or WMV. Other formats, such as Realmedia or Quicktime, may be rejected. If for some reason this is not possible, please contact
    • Be sure the output codec is a widely used or standard codec (non-proprietary codec). If it plays in VLC Media Player, it should be acceptable. If we cannot read your video file, we cannot judge your video. If we cannot read your video file, we will attempt to notify you immediately.
  5. Video bumpers (intro/outtro/credits) are acceptable and encouraged but they should be as short as possible. Credits should not exceed 10 seconds total.
  6. All videos must be between 2-8 minutes in length, including bumpers.
  7. Geek.Kon is a PG-13 environment. This means that videos should not contain any sexual nudity, excessive violence, or particularly offensive materials. This includes profanity or other offensive audio (song lyrics and other audio used). This exact determination is up to the Geek.Kon Music Video Contest coordinator. If you believe your video may violate or come close to violating this rule, please contact the coordinator at
  8. Please send only your best work. Subtitles in your videos will NOT be allowed. Any video entered that contains subtitles from subbed anime will be disqualified. They only distract the viewer. Don’t know how to remove subtitles in your videos? Check out the how-to guides at
  9. We will only accept work by the original author. Your real name, address, and signature are required when filling out the entry form.
  10. You must be registered for Geek.Kon on or before August 15, 2015.  We do not accept submissions from non-registered attendees.  We will check your name against our registration database, so please make sure your name matches that on your registration.
  11. Entries submitted to other conventions' contests may be accepted. However, a video will not be eligible if it has won at a previous contest/convention.
  12. We encourage videos that have been created within the last year, although older videos will still be accepted.
  13. Hard-copy entries will not be returned. Please make sure that you send us a copy of your work and not the original.
  14. If you choose to submit by mail, please include all the information from the entry form and make sure to include it with your submission package. Please label your CD and/or DVD on the outside of the disc with your name and which contest (Anime or Misc. Geekery) you are submitting to. If you are submitting electronically, please fill out the form and include the link to your video.
  15. Any entry not following these rules is subject to disqualification.

Please note that there is limited available space for contestants. Submitting an entry does not guarantee that your video will be shown during the contest.

In an effort to encourage people to submit contest entries, if we get AT LEAST 10 total contest entries, I will, at-con personally subject myself to a 2-episode OVA so craptastic and deserving of riffing, it never made it stateside: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Superman Legend!  It would take place in one of the viewing rooms, so you would be more than welcome to join me in mocking this pile of animated feces

The contest will be pre-judged by our illustrious panel of judges.  All GMVs will be scored using three criteria: Synchronization, Creativity, and Technical Detail on a scale from 1-10 in each category. 1= Epic Fail where 10= Epic Win.  Entry into the contest does not ensure that your video will be shown. If we receive more videos than can be shown in the allotted time, we will show the videos scored highest during pre-judging. We will make every effort to show as many videos as possible. All videos will be pre-screened to make sure that the content is suitable for the viewing audience (PG-13).

The winners will be announced and awards given out at the end of the contest. Contestants must be present in order to win.

If we get enough entries in each category (Anime and Misc. Geekery), there will be a 1st and 2nd Place award for each Category and a Best In Show award for the best video across the board.  If not, there will be an overall 1st-3rd places awarded.  Regardless, there will also be an “ERROR404LOL Award” for the most hilariously mind-numbing contest entry.

Lastly, if you have any questions whatsoever regarding the GMV Awards, feel free to send an e-mail to  We look forward to seeing your creative works!
