Geek.Kon AMV
P.O Box 5191
Madison, WI 53705
Electronic Submissions must be uploaded to an online filesharing site such as Dropbox or Sendspace and then the link emailed to amv@geekkon.net with the information on the entry form included in the e-mail.
-
All entries must be received IN ADVANCE by August 31, 2012. No entries will be accepted after this date.
-
Each contestant is limited to one entry for judging. You may submit up to 2 additional entries for exhibition purposes only. Geek.Kon staff members MUST enter for exhibition only. Each entry will require a separate entry form. If you submit more than one video, please indicate clearly which video is to be judged. Please note that if there are too many videos for the allotted time, one or more of your exhibition entries may not be shown in order to allow the best videos to compete. If you are a part of a studio with multiple members, we will accept entries from each individual studio member. Each studio member is allowed one contest entry.
-
The contest will only accept digital submissions (no VHS). These submissions must meet the following digital criteria:
-
Entries must be stand alone data files on either CD(s) or DVD(s). You may enter videos by email, but it is highly preferred that you enter a hard copy by regular mail. DO NOT burn your disk as a DVD! If you are submitting more than one video, you may put them on one DVD. Please make sure that the filenames are clear. Emailed videos must be uploaded to a file sharing site and then the page link emailed to amv@geekkon.net with the correct details included.
-
Video files should be set to maximum quality.
-
Video files may be spanned across multiple discs if needed using either ZIP or RAR.
-
Files may be AVI, MPEG, or WMV. Other formats, such as Realmedia or Quicktime, will be rejected. If for some reason this is not possible, please contact amv@geekkon.net
-
Be sure the output codec is a widely used or standard codec (non-proprietary codec). If it plays in VLC Media Player, it should be acceptable. If we cannot read your video file, we cannot judge your video. If we cannot read your video file, we will attempt to notify you immediately.
-
Video bumpers (intro/outtro/credits) are acceptable and encouraged but they should be as short as possible. Credits should not exceed 10 seconds total.
-
All videos must be less than 6 minutes in length, including bumpers.
-
Geek.Kon is a PG-13 environment. This means that videos should not contain any sexual nudity, excessive violence, or particularly offensive materials. This includes profanity or other offensive audio (song lyrics and other audio used). This exact determination is up to the Geek.Kon AMV coordinator. If you believe your video may violate or come close to violating this rule, please contact the coordinator at amv@geekkon.net.
-
Please send only your best work. Subtitles in your videos will NOT be allowed. Any video entered that contains subtitles from subbed anime will be disqualified. They only distract the viewer. Don’t know how to remove subtitles in your videos? Check out the how-to guides at AMV.org
-
We will only accept work by the original author. Your real name, address, and signature are required when filling out the entry form.
-
You must be registered for Geek.Kon on or before August 31, 2012. We do not accept submissions from non-registered attendees. We will check your name against our registration database, so please make sure your name matches that on your registration.
-
Entries submitted to other contests may be accepted. However, a video will not be eligible if it has won at a previous contest/convention.
-
We encourage videos that have been created within the last year, although older videos will still be accepted.
-
Entries will not be returned. Please make sure that you send us a copy of your work and not the original.
-
Print out the entry form and make sure to include it with your submission package. Please label your CD and/or DVD on the outside of the disc with your name. If you are submitting electronically, please fill out the form and include it as an attachment with the e-mailed link to your video.
-
Any entry not following these rules is subject to disqualification.
Other Information
Please note that there is limited available space for contestants. Submitting an entry does not guarantee that your AMV will be shown during the contest.
Judging:
The contest will be pre-judged by our illustrious panel of judges. Entry into the contest does not ensure that your video will be shown. If we receive more videos than can be shown in the allotted time, we will show the videos scored highest during pre-judging. We will make every effort to show as many videos as possible. All videos will be pre-screened to make sure that the content is suitable for the viewing audience (PG-13).
Awards:
The winners will be announced and awards given out at the end of the AMV event. Contestants must be present in order to be eligible to win.
